About
Welcome to I Shanghai Delight, a charming culinary gem located at 1115 Front St, Sacramento, CA 95814. This delightful eatery has captured the hearts and taste buds of many with its authentic Shanghai-inspired dishes and a warm, inviting atmosphere. If you're seeking a true taste of Shanghai, this is the place to be.
The first thing to note is the wonderful culinary authenticity that defines the menu. Customers rave about the classic Xiao Long Bao, known for their delicate wrappers and savory soup bursts. Reviewers like michael miao reminisce about the authentic flavors reminiscent of home-cooked meals from their childhood in Shanghai. He praised the spicy beef noodle soup and the deep-fried pork chop, insisting that every dish we tried was simply delectable.
An exceptional highlight of I Shanghai Delight is the rich and flavorful braised duck, as highlighted by Cam Suniga, whose experience revealed tender meat simmered in a satisfying sauce. Every bite is a journey through the flavors of Shanghai, making it impossible not to savor each moment. The dumplings, whether spicy pork or shrimp with pork, are also a must-try that can elevate your dining experience to new heights.
Furthermore, the ambiance is equally inviting. Although located in a space that once served as a bar, the decor features fascinating historical photographs of 1920s Shanghai, blending the old with the new. As Mayra Lopez mentioned, the overall style of the restaurant is modern yet warm, making it a great spot for a meal with friends or a romantic dinner.

“ Great little restaurant Great food Helpful staff ”
“ This place is so good. Tastes very authentic. Will definitely be back for more! ”
“ My parents are from Shanghai so I grew up on this style of food. It’s the real thing. Everything was good. Xiao Long Bao. Spicy beef noodle soup. Braised greens with black mushrooms. Rice soup with vegetable and shredded pork. Deep fried pork chop. We ordered too much but we finished everything because it would have been a shame to waste anything. Looks like they took over a prior bar space so the entry is a bit odd with the downstairs with little to see nice inside. Don’t worry about the decor when it’s the food that you should be there for. There are very interesting historical photos of Shanghai likely 1920’s-1930’s with modern Shanghai pictures interspersed. The gentleman doing everything unfortunately doesn’t speak much English but we did fine ordering and got a great meal. Most of the negative comments are from people not there for Shanghai food. But if you want Shanghai Chinese food this is really good. ”
“ Delicious food, very flavorful with how tender the duck tasted. The sauce they braised it with was very flavorful. I had also the pork dumplings and bun. Lots of flavor and very delicious for both. It was very calming and relaxing in the place. ”
“ My husband and I had a really great time! The overall decor and style of the restaurant is inviting and modern. We ordered the spicy pork dumplings, pan-fried pork dumplings, and shrimp with pork dumplings! My favorite was the spicy pork dumplings! Definitely coming back! ”
“ This is an amazing restaurant! They told us they had been closed for a few months and reopened today. Such a great find. The food was incredible and very well priced, we got free tea, and the owner came and told us a bit about her culture and how all the recipes are local to Shanghai, where she grew up. She even gave us recommendations for what we might like next time. We got the yellow croaker with preserved vegetables noodle soup and the pan-fried pork soup dumplings. Will definitely be coming back! ”
“ I Shanghai Delight was closed for months. I'm happy to find out they are reopened when I'm researching a restaurant for dinner this evening. I decided to try out this restaurant again. I liked their food before they closed. I'm glad I did! The restaurant looks the same as before. All the tables, chairs, and decorations are still the same. The dining room is clean and comfortable. I ordered a pork XLB, a pan-fried pork bun, and Shanghai fried noodles. All three dishes are very delicious. The only thing I hope is the Shanghai fried noodles will have less oil next time. Other than that, everything is excellent, including the service we received. The gentleman caring for the dining room is very attractive and friendly. ”
“ One of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been to in Sacramento. Looks like they make the dumplings, noodles, and then some fresh on site! Every dish is thoughtfully prepared, and not super heavy oil like some of the other Chinese in Sacramento. Highly recommend pan fried dumplings, Green onion pancake, and the duck. We will certainly be back with more people. ”
